Chinatown is the place to head for Lunar New Year celebrations! The official light up and opening ceremony will be followed by 6 weeks of dazzling street lights and decorations at Chinatown. The light-up will feature handmade sculptured lanterns of Pigs, flowers and greetings so get your cameras ready peeps!

Over at S.E.A. Aquarium, your little sea monsters can look forward to the only underwater dragon dance in Singapore! This signature show stars an intricately-designed dragon swimming amongst 40,000 marine life and has been a staple in the aquarium for many years. Go on a treasure hunt trail around the aquarium and receive an abundance of blessings across eight stations, each featuring an iconic marine animal symbolising Longevity, Wealth, and Abundance and others.

Get excited for the Chingay parade, the annual largest street performance and float parade in Asia! The Chingay carnival takes place over three days from 15 to 17 February 2019, at the open space behind the Singapore Flyer. The area will turn into a whimsical Chingay wonderland with family-friendly activities, plus stunning Chingay performers and floats. On Sunday (17 February 2019), the F1 race track will turn into a huge adventure playground, plus there’s a movie under the stars at night, right on the F1 race track.

Huayi Festival, Singapore’s annual Chinese Festival of the Arts, is back, complete with theatre, music, and lion dance performances plus kid-friendly shows and workshops (like learning Chinese dance for kids) too. The festival kicks off on the 15th February with a lively performance by ZingO, followed by Yiwei Athletic Association’s acrobatic lion dancers. There’s also a modern, Chinese adaptation of Hamlet by acclaimed director Li Liuyi, an opera in concert and something for the little ones – Child’s Play, The Story of the Banyan Tree. This show aimed at ages 6 to 11 is adapted from a classic local folklore, and is packed with hands-on activities and creative storytelling to teach children the importance of teamwork.

Amidst a scenic landscape dotted with elegant pavilions, rotating water wheels, and a majestic 35-metre-long archway of red lanterns, take time to admire the spectacular dahlias – some with blooms as large as one’s face – along with other festive and auspicious plants like narcissus, cymbidium and chrysanthemum. Keep your eyes peeled for the exquisite “Thousand Blooms” chrysanthemum arrangements, which have been painstakingly cultivated over a period of at least one year to present the magnificent display of 500 to 1,500 flowers blooming from a single plant.
To celebrate the Year of the Pig, delightful sculptures of the animal can also be spotted in Gardens by the Bay’s first floral display of 2019.
